Sign the Petition: Protect Bexar County Drivers Before November 1

Bexar County drivers now have another way to make their voices heard.

A citizen-led petition is asking President Donald Trump and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to intervene before Bexar County’s mandatory vehicle emissions testing program takes effect on November 1, 2026.

The petition, started by Bexar County resident John Whitsett, asks the Trump administration to grant Bexar County relief under Section 179B of the Clean Air Act—or pause the mandate before local families are forced to bear its cost.

WHAT THE PETITION IS ASKING FOR

The petition asks federal officials to take action before the emissions testing mandate begins. Specifically, it calls on the administration to:

• Grant Bexar County relief under Section 179B of the federal Clean Air Act.
• Stay or delay the November 1, 2026, emissions testing mandate.
• Recognize that much of the ozone affecting Bexar County originates outside the region and cannot be controlled by local drivers.
• Protect working families from testing fees and potentially unaffordable vehicle repair costs.

WHY THIS MATTERS TO BEXAR COUNTY FAMILIES

Beginning November 1, gasoline-powered vehicles between 2 and 24 model years old will generally be required to pass an emissions test before their registrations can be renewed in Bexar County.

A failed test could leave a family facing significant repair costs before they can legally renew their vehicle registration. For residents who depend on older vehicles to get to work, take their children to school, attend medical appointments, or care for family members, those costs could create a serious hardship.

Bexar County families deserve more than another government mandate. They deserve transparency, a real cost-benefit analysis, and leaders willing to fight for practical relief.

PATRICK WILL FIGHT FOR RELIEF

Patrick Von Dohlen believes government must prove that a mandate will produce meaningful results before forcing families and small businesses to pay for it.

As Bexar County Judge, Patrick will pursue Section 179B relief, demand a transparent cost-benefit analysis, advocate for reasonable alternatives and exemptions, and hold government officials accountable for the burdens they place on working families.
